No dia 18 de setembro foi realizada a reunião do Comitê de Gerenciamento da Bacia Hidrográfica do Litoral Médio, na sede do Sindicato Rural de Viamão e Alvorada. A abertura da reunião foi realizada pelo presidente do Sindicato Rural de Viamão, Roberto Canquerini. A Bacia Hidrográfica do Litoral Médio está localizada a leste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, entre as coordenadas geográficas de 29°51 a 32°11 de latitude Sul e 50°15 a 52°05 de longitude Oeste e compreende também o entorno da Laguna dos Patos, sendo formada por diversas lagoas, as quais, algumas dessas, estão interligadas. O principal uso da água é para irrigação de lavouras de arroz, apresentando um grau de urbanização e densidade demográfica baixa. Foi tratada a fragilidade para manutenção da água doce na bacia pela grande influência oceânica, que pode acarretar problemas de restrição de uso pela intrusão salina através da Laguna dos Patos, que abrange a província geomorfológica Planície Costeira e possui área de 6.108,03 km, envolvendo os municípios de Palmares do Sul, Capivari do Sul, Balneário Pinhal, Cidreira, Mostardas, Osório, Santo Antônio da Patrulha, São José do Norte, Tavares, Tramandaí e Viamão.
