No dia 11 de novembro, o PSDB/RS escolheu Eduardo Leite para presidente e Valdir Bonatto, para vice-presidente do partido. A Convenção foi realizada no Teatro Dante Barone da Assembleia Legislativa do RS. O PSDB governa 28% das prefeituras do Estado, sem contar os vice-prefeitos. Na oportunidade, o ex-prefeito de Pelotas, Eduardo Leite, foi lançado como pré-candidato ao governo do Estado pelo PSDB. Seu nome foi oficializado na convenção Estadual do partido. Mais de 1,2 mil pessoas estavam presentes na convenção, onde 236 delegados confirmaram seus votos em Leite e Bonatto. Ao se pronunciar sobre a indicação, Leite disse que o “desafio” de comandar o Rio Grande do Sul, em meio a uma crise financeira, “não intimida”, comparando com a situação de Pelotas, quando foi prefeito entre 2013-2016. Ainda assim, ele afirmou que o lançamento de uma candidatura virá depois da construção do projeto de governo, o que pretende fazer enquanto presidente da sigla. O ex-prefeito de Viamão,
