Quatro dias antes das eleições, o General Hamilton Mourão, futuro vice-presidente da República, na chapa de Jair Bolsonaro, esteve em Viamão. O General Mourão esteve acompanhado pelo vice-governador, José Cairoli, e da candidata ao Senado, Carmen Flores (PSL), e foram recepcionados pelo vice-prefeito, Valdir Jorge Elias Russinho. O general da reserva, Hamilton Mourão, estava bastante alegre e gostando do contato popular, sorrindo muito e erguendo os braços ao ser recebido aos gritos de “Mito, mito”. Gaúcho de Porto Alegre, Mourão estava acompanhado de um grande número de seguranças. O general veio em carreata do Seminário Maior de Viamão até o Centro da cidade, onde caminhou pela Avenida Cel. Marcos de Andrade até a Igreja Matriz de Viamão. Entusiasmado, Mourão subiu no caminhão para discursar, usando muito slogans patrióticos-nacionalistas. “Conclamo a uma cruzada contra a corrupção, contra a mentira e contra a incompetência que assolou o Brasil nos últimos anos”, disse Mourão. O general disse que o país finalmente ingressará no Século 21, ao eleger Jair Bolsonaro. O futuro vice-presidente foi cercado por muitas pessoas que já o esperavam desde cedo.
Um caminhão da Policia do Exército com militares dentro, ao passar pela avenida principal de Viamão, era ovacionado e aplaudido pelos populares.
