No dia 18 de outubro, o prefeito de Viamão, André Pacheco, visitou o Complexo Ana Jobim para acompanhar as obras de terraplenagem na área onde será construído o prédio do 18º Batalhão de Polícia Militar. O prefeito estava acompanhado do comandante do 18° BPM, Ten. Cel. José Carlos Pacheco Ferreira. O início das obras foi anunciado pelo governador José Ivo Sartori no dia em que Viamão completou seus 276 anos (14 de setembro). A previsão de entrega é para março de 2018. Por dezoito anos, o batalhão funcionou em sede provisória. A construção da nova unidade faz parte dos investimentos do Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID) no Rio Grande do Sul, por meio do Programa de Oportunidades e Direitos (POD). O convênio é com a Secretaria do Desenvolvimento Social, Trabalho, Justiça e dos Direitos Humanos (SDSTJDH), mas tem participação da Secretaria da Segurança Pública. O valor total do convênio é de 56 milhões de dólares. Só em Viamão, serão 8,5 milhões de dólares. Além da nova sede do 18° BPM, existem outros projetos que serão implantados no Complexo Ana Jobim, transformando-o em um grande núcleo de saúde, desenvolvimento social e segurança: o Centro da Juventude, que foi inaugurado no dia 16 de outubro; Corpo de Bombeiros; Agência SINE; Procon; Defesa Civil; Conselho Tutelar; sala dos conselhos; PAS 24 horas.
