No dia em que Viamão completou 276 anos, os moradores do município receberam a notícia da nova sede do 18º Batalhão da Brigada Militar. A assinatura de contrato e a ordem de início das obras ocorreram na quinta-feira (14), e a previsão de entrega é para março de 2018. Por 18 anos, o batalhão funcionou em sede provisória. O governador José Ivo Sartori destacou o empenho dos policiais e afirmou que está ouvindo os apelos por mais segurança, apesar do momento difícil na economia. “Sabemos da necessidade da construção deste batalhão e dos benefícios que trará para a comunidade. Vocês estão a seis meses de concretizar um objetivo tão esperado”, disse.
A construção da nova unidade faz parte dos investimentos do Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID) no Rio Grande do Sul, por meio do Programa de Oportunidades e Direitos (POD). O convênio é com a Secretaria do Desenvolvimento Social, Trabalho, Justiça e dos Direitos Humanos (SDSTJDH), mas tem participação da Secretaria da Segurança Pública. O valor total do convênio é de U$ 56 milhões.
Só em Viamão, serão U$ 8,5 milhões. Além da nova sede do 18° BPM, existem outros projetos. Um dos principais é o Centro da Juventude, que vai funcionar no prédio da escola Anna Jobim, perto da Brigada Militar. O local está sendo reformado para atender jovens, de 15 a 24 anos, da comunidade. O secretário da Segurança Pública, Cezar Schirmer, foi na mesma linha. Disse que os investimentos em Viamão representam muito mais do que a construção de um novo espaço para a Brigada Militar. “A integração nos deixa mais fortes. Aqui haverá trabalho concreto em uma questão que, muitas vezes, é ignorada: a prevenção primária, focada nas crianças e nos jovens. É fundamental, pois essa faixa etária é mais suscetível aos atrativos da criminalidade e das drogas”, concluiu. O subcomandante da Brigada Militar, coronel Mário Ikeda, destacou a valorização dada à atividade policial a partir da construção das novas instalações. “Este é o início de um novo momento para nós, Viamão. Há 18 anos a corporação opera em uma sede provisória no município. O novo 18º BPM proporcionará a melhor prestação de serviços, garantindo a integração aos programas sociais desenvolvidos no complexo Anna Jobim”, assegurou.
